Make a Wish was a drawing workshop, complementing a family film screening event for the children of the Newham community. It was held at the Old Manor Park Library, which is an abandoned space revived (by Create London) into a cultural and artistic centre to host events for the local community. In the workshop, all children made a wish as they entered the venue. Later, they were asked to draw ideas for how they would like to make these wishes come true. By recreating the childhood joy of freely drawing on the wall, this activity aimed at giving children a chance to realise their dreams.

As an outsider in the Newham community, my first point of connection with the local people there was our common South Asian background. I sreened two Indian children's short films- 'Tubelight Ka Chaand' and 'Paperboy'. Tubelight Ka Chaand features a 7 year old boy who tries incessantly to seize the moon. Finally, he uses his imagination and collects all the bulbs from the city to create a huge illuminating circle on his terrace. He is elated as he brings this moment to life. Inspired by this film, I wanted to ask the children- How will you makes your wishes come true?
